What it is
Lunar Foundation Model is an open foundation model for lunar remote sensing, released jointly by NASA and IBM on 10 Sep 2026. The companion benchmark SomBench covers roughly two million tiles. Training and inference run through TerraTorch. License: Apache-2.0.

What is not real, stated plainly
- This site does not run TerraTorch locally. The Moon globe is a navigation visualization only. The inspector shows published model-output plates from the HF / NASA release - not mission ops.
- Hugging Face endpoint is optional and labelled in the UI. When unset or unavailable, the client serves a cached or published ice-prospectivity plate. Never pretend compute is local to this site.
- Ice plates show prospectivity (model / knowledge-map likelihood), not measured ice deposits. That limit is stated on the HF card.
- $LUNAR is not IBM stock, not a NASA token, and not an official NASA or IBM product. Pairing to ticker IBM is a market designation on this page, not an endorsement.
- No affiliation with NASA, IBM, IBM stock, or any agency flight program. Citations point to public open-source releases only.
